Marcellus Shale
Emera Energy provides Marcellus gas producers with solutions that can help move their gas to premium markets in Canada and the US. Using our gas commodity and transportation expertise, we create value for producers in the short term and daily markets as well as making long-term transportation and supply commitments. Emera Energy is an Associate Member of the Marcellus Shale Coalition and actively involved in a number of committees to help producers move and sell their gas.
Emera Energy is currently working with several Marcellus producers to provide gas and transportation services ranging in quantity from 10,000 dth/d to 50,000 dth/d and contract terms ranging from one to ten years.
Asset Management
Emera Energy has in-depth expertise in the commercial management of electricity generating assets. We offer knowledge and experience of natural gas and power markets throughout Atlantic Canada, Eastern Canada and the US Northeast combined with a unique ability to balance our understanding of market conditions with operating flexibility that has translated into positive returns for our clients time and time again.

Investing in Assets
Emera Energy is building a portfolio of generation assets to complement our business focus on third party services as well as marketing and trading.
In July 2009 Emera Energy purchased Bayside Power; a 260 megawatt gas-fired combined cycle power plant located in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Bayside plant provides energy to the parts of the Maritimes and New England and compliments Emera’s operations in the Atlantic Canada including, electricity generation, transmission, distribution, natural gas transmission and natural gas marketing. Bayside is the highest quality thermal unit in the region providing the market with reliability and flexibility in its operations along with low emissions.
Bear Swamp is a 600 megawatt pumped storage hydroelectric generating facility on the Deerfield River in Northern Massachusetts. It has a dam storage capacity of 5 hours, providing total daily capacity of approximately 3,000 MWh. Emera owns Bear Swamp in a 50/50 joint venture with Brookfield Power.
